MissionICEMS is an interdisciplinary research institute affiliated with Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and devoted to scientific fields related to Materials Science and Engineering, Physics and Chemical and Mechanical Engineering. The mission of ICEMS is to generate knowledge and technology development as well as advanced training of young researchers with a scientific strategy aimed at partnerships with national and European academic and industrial groups in the fields of materials technologies, surface characterization and modification, multifunctional materials, nanosciences and nanotechnologies, novel production processes and design of new materials and devices. ICEMS integrates over 50 scientists with a PhD degree and their graduate students, supporting a complementary set of scientific laboratories in the Alameda Campus of IST, which reflect the multidisciplinarity of the research themes and include Electron Microscopy (SEM, TEM), Scanning Probe Microscopy (AFM and STM), Spectroscopy (UV, Visible, Ellipsometry, Mline, FTIR, Raman and AES/XPS), X-Ray Diffraction, Chemical Processes and Analysis, Microfluidics, Particle Image Velocimetry and Electrokinetic Analysis plus Mechanical Testing (uniaxial and bi-axial, high temperature). Links and joint projects with foreign groups, publications and research contracts reflect the degree of interdisciplinarity and the networking effort with researchers outside ICEMS. | |||
